The Flow Critics’ Poll

The first annual Flow Critics’ Poll is out. Sure, it’s only from a couple of dozen academics, but it’s an interesting indication of the diversity of not only television content, but the perceived quality of that diverse content, with dozens of series getting listed in people’s top-ten lists.

For the record, the top vote-getter was indeed Lost, but from there on out, the picks were all over the place, from other serial dramas (Veronica Mars) to cable comedy (The Colbert Report) to cult UK SF (Doctor Who) to YouTube clips (“Bus Uncle”). As Jason Mittell writes, the divergent lists indicates the profoundly blurry boundaries of “television” in the 21st century.
